A few days back I watched I hate Luv stories. Yesterday afternoon I watched "Confessions of a shop-o-holic" and yesterday night I watched Inception. Reactions after watching the movies are "Get me a barf bag!", "Ugh uh for the shop-o-holic and batting eye lashes for the investment banker" and "Bollywood cannot compete with these goras. Amazing script, beautiful story-telling and mind-boggling graphics!!!" respectively.

Would like to add a bit more of a review for Inception because it deserves more. For some strange reason, right now, the only way I can compliment the movie is by saying Bollywood is primitive, hardly original and mediocre at even making a copy!! With every such movie made in Hollywood, the bars have been set high, and its sometime before Indians can even begin conceiving such ideas. Ofcourse the Indian dance and song sequences have caught the attention of the westerner, but I wonder how long can songs hold someone's attention? Some great Indian film critic said somewhere that "Indians are still to understand cinema and the art of story-telling." I couldn't agree more.

The best challenge that Indian Cinema faces, is with the "Inception" and the execution of any idea. Indians can definitely make better cinema than what is being made. I would slightly disagree that we are at a primitive state, cause there are TV advertisements like Aditya Birla Sunlife, Videocon's add in early 2000's and to a certain extent the advertisement of Thumsup which has high adrenaline auto chase. But incorporating similar visuals is something that doesn't come to Chopra's and Bhansali's creative thinking. Indian cinema is yet to overcome film-making with lead actors singing around the tree.

However, there are film makers who are coming up with new concepts and ideas to enthrall Indian audience in next few years.

There are a few genres about which Indian film makers have absolutely no clue about, notably action and horror. And there are people who actually like to watch a candy floss flick or a Sooraj Barjatya kinda feel-good flick, and hence such films are made and they actually become hits too!But I certainly wont go to the extent of branding bollywood as primitive just on the basis of a 'Prince' or a 'Phoonk'. There are gems and duds in any film industry. Coz, there are a few gems like '3 idiots' too for every bunch of duds it produces. So I dont think making a generalisation is apt.

Ironically, the only theatre which is showing Inception here is showing it dubbed in hindi! :D

Well if I leave for Hollywood I would certainly praise it... :) And to be true ..i think we should not compare the movie industry and the way cinema is been projected in various parts of the world....

I mean, in India how many people know about AIDS..i mean how many literates..?? less so the censor had earlier even banned kissing on screens...this has to be this way ...if anybody wants to look at Indian Cinema and its production of orignal scripts and ideas..look at films in late 70's and 80' of nana patekar and omp puri and all the stage actors who redifined the art of story telling by class...nassurddin shah is the best example of that..I will put a pause to that.

Looking at Hollywood..i would say that acting has revealed in big times over the years....Even the cinema grew over there more than it has done anywhere....and the big point...it started early...bingo.. so how can we compare a 40 year old guy with a 100 year old guy...I mean i know that Slyvester Stallone has done some wonders in Rocky ...but so will somebody like Aamir Khan will do it for India :)
